Efficient system for soil conservation and erosion management
Vetiver is a low-cost and efficient plant, used in nearly 100 countries, for soil and water conservation, infrastructure stabilization, pollution control, waste water treatment, mitigation, and prevention of storm damage and many other applications. This plant is the main component to all Vetiver System bioengineering and conservation applications.
This cultivated variety of Chrysopogon zizanioides has its center of origin in southern India. It can be used in the tropics and semi-tropics, and areas that have a Mediterranean type climate where there are hot summers, and winters are temperate. In the United States, Vetiver is adapted to the USDA hardiness zones 9 and above.

The very basis of the Vetiver System is that when Vetiver is planted as a hedgerow across a slope, it forms a very dense barrier that slows down and spreads rainfall runoff. Pretty simple!! The plant has a very deep and strong root system (average tensile strength 1/6 of mild steel), a wide range of pH tolerance from about pH 3 to pH 11, a high tolerance to most heavy metals, an ability to remove from soil and water large quantities of excess nitrates, phosphates and farm chemicals, and an attribute of sterility and non-invasiveness. We now have a plant that, with some modifications to its application, can be used for soil and water conservation, engineered construction site stabilization, pollution control (constructed wetlands), and most other uses where soil and water come together.

We recommend selecting US Postal Service Priority Mail at checkout. This service provides 2 to 3 day delivery anywhere in the USA, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. US Parcel Post is also offered for the shipment of commercial packs which provides a 7 to 10 day delivery. Using this method the plants will feel dry on arrival but will recover quickly upon watering and planting.
We provide tracking information and free shipping insurance on all orders.
When required by your local Department of Agriculture or other regulatory agency, please order a Phytosanitary Certificate along with your order. We are not responsible if your order is delayed, destroyed or confiscated for lack of the proper permits or documentartion.
For larger projects, please order in pack size combinations according to your requirements using the Vetiver Coverage Table. This table will help you determine the number of packs of each size needed for your project.

Our plants and plugs are commercial quality and greenhouse grown on sterile potting mix (Sphagnum moss, perlite, and vermiculite) and are shipped with a 4 to 5 inch long root ball and blades trimmed to about 5 inches. Plants are removed from the reusable plastic tray (see picture) and packed in boxes.
Upon receipt, plants must be removed from the boxes and kept in a cool and dry location and planted within one week of arrival. Periodic irrigation is recommended on dry soils during the first three months.
