The Heliconia caribaea, Gold, a variety native to Puerto Rico, produces large, colorful flowers with waxy bracts in golden yellow with shades of green towards the tips. Most people think of the bracts as the bloom, but the true flower are stiff green and white sepals that poke out of the bracts at various points.
Heliconias belong in the plant family Heliconiaceae, within the order of the Zingiberales.

The Heliconia caribaea, Gold is a generous bloomer in summer and fall.
All the caribaea heliconias are large and average 8 to 10 ft. in height. Not recommended for container planting.
Full sun to partial shade. Moderately humid soil.
Flower is great as focal point in floral arrangements when combined with smaller heliconias and foliage. Fresh flower will last 7 to 14 days in clean water.
