The Zingiber spectabile, Chocolate Beehive Ginger produces an oval chocolate brown inflorescence.
Most people think of the chocolate bracts as the bloom, but the true flower are small white flowers that eventually poke out of the bracts as they age.
The inflorescences grow in 1 to 2 ft. stalks straight from the ground and are very easy to cut. They are often called "microphones" or "maracas" for good reason.
Gingers belong in the plant family Zingiberaceae, within the order of the Zingiberales.
Please review the Zingiberales Planting and Caring page for additional information.
The Zingiber spectabile, Chocolate Beehive Ginger is a generous bloomer during the warmer months. The flower has a moderate earthy fragrance.
This ginger is large and averages 4 to 6 ft. in height. Can be grown in large containers.
