Due to the ever increasing shipping costs our clients will find rhizomes a better choice for obtaining our quality Zingiberales plants. We will not be offering the "growing plant" alternative for most products any longer. We will however, select rhizomes with growing buds or short stems when availabe at no additional cost.

A growing plant will be a rhizome with a well developed root system and at least one initial growing stem.  The root system will be packed in moist peat moss growing mix and can be planted directly into decorative pots or good soil outdoors.

A bare-root rhizome will have minimal root development and is packed with minimal humidity to prevent rot or fungus during travel.  Rhizomes should be started in a one to two gallon pot with a good grade potting mix until one or more healthy stems are well developed.

The order of the Zingiberales includes all our available plants in the following families:

  • Heliconiaceae (Heliconia)
  • Zingiberaceae (Ginger)
  • Musaceae (Bananas)
  • Strelitziaceae (Bird-of-Paradise)
  • Costaceae (Costus)
  • Cannaceae (Canna)
  • Marantaceae (Prayer Plants)
  • Lowiaceae
