| General Information |
Inflorescence
The Musa coccinea, Red Torch Banana, is a decorative banana with what must be the most beautiful banana flower ever. Starting as a tight red-orange bundle with yellow tips, the flower slowly opens over several months revealing a flaming torch. The plant looks very elegant in a garden even if the fruit is inedible.
Musa coccinea is sometimes called Musa uranoscopus due to an argument only a botanist could appreciate.
Musa (bananas) belong in the plant family Musaceae, within the order of the Zingiberales.
Please review the Zingiberales Planting and Caring page for additional information.
