The Heliconia stricta, Oliveira's Sharonii, produces colorful inflorescences with bright and shiny red-orange bracts edged in yellow. Most people think of the bracts as the bloom, but the true flower are stiff green, white tipped sepals that poke out of the bracts. The folliage of this plant is also very attractive with dark green leaves with marroon undersides and midrib.
Heliconias belong in the plant family Heliconaceae, within the order of the Zingiberales.
