The Alpinia purpurata, Red Cone Ginger, also called Ostrich Plume or just Red Ginger, produces showy flowers on long brightly colored red bracts.  Most people think of the red bracts as the bloom, but the true flower are small white flowers that eventually poke out of the bracts as they age.  A standard ginger in the floral industry, it flowers generously all year round.
